April 14 Fishing Report

Inshore St. Joe Bay

Trout and flounder are beginning to move into the potholes East and South of Blacks Island. Look for white sandy areas in the grass in about 3-5 feet of water. Live Shrimp fished under a cork with a 1/0 circle hook for the trout. and on the bottom using a Carolina rig with 1/2 ounce weight, 1/0 circle hook for the flounder. Also, pearl white gulp on 1/4 ounce jig head working the bottom has been affective for both trout and flounder. Average size trout 15-20 inches. Some good ones up to 25 inches. average flounder is 11-16 inches.

Plenty of Spanish Mackerel in the bay. Fish the ledges and drop offs north of the state park. 5 to 15 feet of water. slow trolling tub rigs with a silver clarks spoon at the end. or drifting and casting a 1/2 or 3/4 oz. silver gotcha plug into the bait schools. Average sizes 10 inches up to 20 inches.
